Ohio Works First (OWF) is part of Ohio’s Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) is a program that was established to provide time-limited cash assistance to eligible families. The emphasis of TANF is self-sufficiency, personal responsibility and employment. The TANF program provides cash benefits to eligible families for up to 36 months. After the 36-month limit, a family cannot receive additional TANF cash assistance unless the county agency approves a hardship extension.
EligibilityThe Ohio Works First program is available for families with children younger than 18 years of age and pregnant women in their 3rd trimester that meet federal income limits.

How Long Can I Get It?You can receive assistance under the Ohio Works First program for up to 36 months in your lifetime. Exemptions to extend the duration of assistance are based on individual circumstances.

How Do I Apply?You can file an application in person during regular business hours, by mailing in a completed application, dropping an application in our drop box (In parking lot outside the BMV), via email at [email protected] or by faxing a completed application to 937-484-1506. You can also apply online at Self Service Portal Home Page (ohio.gov).
